Mt. Clemens, MI — Troy United traveled Monday to compete in MLK MAC Showcase at Mt. Clemens Ice Arena, hosted by the Macomb Area Conference varsity hockey teams, and came away with a dominant 5–0 shutout victory over Utica Fraser, avenging an earlier season loss. Troy United set the tone early as Breiden Blaeske (Athens High School) opened the scoring with his sixth lead-off goal of the season, finishing a feed from Kaiser Ascencio (AHS). TU continued to apply pressure, and the alternate captains connected on the power play when Ben Dumas (AHS) buried a quick one-timer from Ascencio to make it 2–0. Utica Fraser brought sustained offensive pressure throughout the second period, but goaltender Noah Dumas (AHS) stood tall in net, turning away every scoring chance. Troy United added to the lead in the third period as the top line peppered the goalie during a scramble in front of the net. Joey Clark (Troy High School) capitalized on a loose puck to make it 3–0. In the closing minutes, Troy United was assessed a penalty and Utica Fraser pulled its goalie for a two-man advantage. Clark struck again, forcing a turnover and sending the puck the length of the ice into the empty net. In the final seconds, Blaeske was awarded a penalty shot and converted for his second goal of the game, securing the 5–0 final. Noah Dumas earned Player of the Game honors, recording his first shutout of the season. Troy United returns to home ice on Wednesday, January 28, for a rescheduled matchup against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s - White. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
