Royal Oak, MI — After weather-related scheduling conflicts forced recent game cancellations, Troy United returned to action Saturday night with a road trip to Royal Oak to take on Brother Rice Varsity B, coming away with a 5–0 shutout victory over the Warriors. The opening period showcased Troy United’s defense, with blue-liners contributing on both ends of the ice. Senior defenseman Quentin Gatto (Troy High School) opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a scramble in front of the net. As the period wound down, junior defenseman Alex Chrobak (Athens High School) doubled the lead with a shot from the blue line just seconds before intermission. Troy United wasted little time extending the advantage in the second period. Senior Tyler Jewell (THS) sniped the top corner off an early faceoff to make it 3–0. Later in the frame, junior Josh Schmidt (THS) deflected a shot past the Brother Rice goaltender, pushing the lead to 4–0. The scoring was capped in the third period when senior Breiden Blaeske (AHS) buried a rebound to seal the 5–0 victory. Between the pipes, Aaron Mortimer was flawless, earning Player of the Game honors while recording his first varsity shutout. Troy United returns home on Wednesday, January 28th, when they host Orchard Lake St. Mary’s White at 7:00 PM. Story by: Jason Clark Photo credit: Shannon Blaeske
