Tuesday night our Lady RedHawks welcomed in the White Lake Lakeland Eagles from the Huron Valley Conference to Athens Gymnasium for 2 non-league contests between the JV & Varsity teams. The Eagles made the long trip looking to add to their win totals, but our RedHawks had other ideas. In the first game of the evening the JV Teams took to the court and our Lady RedHawks jumped on the Eagles early enroute to a 12-2 1st quarter lead. Lily Greaves with 5 points and Madhu Battula with 4 led the ladies to that early lead, while Madelyn Odgers & Savannah Schubeck were controlling the boards. The second quarter was low on scoring, but our RedHawks defensive intensity was still there. They held the visitors to 2 points while scoring 6 to take an 18-4 halftime lead. In the 3rd quarter the RedHawks started to pull away even more by outscoring the Eagles 14-7 to take a 32-11 lead heading into the 4th. Savannah Byrum asked, "coach can we run 4 out and 1 in", and after a RedHawks timeout, the play came to fruition as she scored the basket, got fouled and made the free throw to carry the momentum for the home team. The Lakeland team made a small run halfway through the quarter to cut the lead to 16, but the RedHawks gained control and came away with a 38-17 win. Our ladies were led by Lily Greaves (9 points, 4 steals, 1 rebound & a block), Madelyn Odgers (7 points, 5 rebounds & a block) and Madhu Battula (6 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 steal). Other contributors were Briony Esper (4 points & 3 rebounds) who has played much better in the past 2 games and Sienna Young (4 points, 9 rebounds & 1 assist). The win moved the Lady RedHawk's record to 8-3 on the year with a big road game on Thursday @ 5:30 at Troy High. Great effort ladies and keep working hard.
