Southfield, MI — Troy United topped Detroit Country Day on Friday night, earning a 5–2 road victory over the Yellow Jackets in a hard-fought matchup. Alternate captain Kaiser Ascencio (Athens High School) opened the scoring in the first period, finishing a feed from Joey Clark (Troy High School) to give Troy United an early lead. The duo connected again on the power play when Ascencio rang a shot off the post and in, pushing the advantage to 2–0. Troy United began the second period with a two-man advantage but was unable to capitalize. Detroit Country Day responded to cut the deficit to 2–1, then tied the game at 2–2 with a power-play goal. The contest remained deadlocked until just over five minutes remained in regulation, when alternate captain Ben Dumas (AHS) buried a goal from behind the net off another assist from Clark to regain the lead. Moments later, Breiden Blaeske (AHS) followed with a quick top-shelf goal to extend the margin to 4–2. With three minutes remaining, Country Day pulled its goaltender for an extra skater, but Ascencio completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal to seal the 5–2 final.
