In the second game of our tripleheader at Troy High the JV teams took to the court. Both teams were excited and ready to play their archrivals. The game started out slowly for the RedHawks as they trailed 8-7 after 1-quarter. Ella Odgers kept the visitors close by hitting 2 big three pointers as the team was struggling to find their rhythm. In the second quarter the RedHawks defense turned up their intensity and held the Colts to 5 points while scoring 8 to take a 15-13 lead into halftime. Again, the RedHawks struggled to hit shots from the outside until Emery Collesano hit a huge 3-pointer which was the only outside shot the team could muster in the quarter. In the 3rd quarter again, both teams had a difficult time sustaining any kind of consistency on the offensive end. The Lady RedHawks hit as many shots (3) in the quarter as they hit in the entire 1st half. But yet they still were able to outscore the Colts 8-7 to take a 23-20 lead heading into the 4th. Madelyn Odger's 4 points led the team that quarter. In the 4th both teams struggled from the outside, but the RedHawks defense picked up and outscored the Colts 10-5 to win the game by the score of 33-25. "We started out the game rushing on the offensive side and came out flat," said Faith Cotton. "But we started to hype each other up and it carried us over into locking down on the defensive end, which allowed us to win the game." The Lady RedHawks were led by Ella Odgers (7 points & 1 steal) who said, "the game was tight and physical all night, however we kept our composure when it mattered and made some key free throws at the end for a well fought team win". Madelyn Odgers (6 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal & 1 block), Sienna Brown (4 points & 3 boards), Faith Cotton (3 points, 3 rebounds & 2 steals) and Emery Collesano (3 points, 2 boards & 1 steal) were also key contributors. Sienna Young (8 rebounds & 1 block) & Madhu Battula (5 boards, 3 steals, 5 assists & 1 block) helped in the win. "This game showed our fight and teamwork but also showed that we still need to improve". "We stayed tough and never gave up, even when things got hard. We kept positive energy all game long on the court and from the bench and that carried us throughout the game", added Emery Collesano. The win improved the RedHawks record to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in the league. Great win and team effort ladies!
