Waterford, MI — Troy United continued its historic season Friday night with a 4-2 road victory over the Walled Lake Whitecaps at Lakeland Arena, securing the program’s 22nd win of the year. With the victory, Troy United remains ranked in the Top 10 of Division 1 in the MHSAA. Troy United opened the scoring midway through the first period when alternate captain Kaiser Ascencio (Athens High School) slipped a shot through the five-hole to give TU a 1–0 lead. With just 10 seconds remaining in the opening frame, senior Tyler Jewell (Troy High School) buried a feed from defenseman Quentin Gatto (THS) to extend the advantage to 2–0. The Whitecaps responded in the second period after killing off a Troy United power play, cutting the deficit to 2–1 and keeping the contest tight. The third period saw both teams trade penalties as the game remained physical and evenly played, with strong goaltending on both ends. On the power play, captain Joey Clark (THS) carried the puck into the offensive zone and dished it to Jewell, who found the back of the net for his second goal of the night, giving Troy United a 3–1 lead. Walled Lake answered quickly to make it 3–2, but with the Whitecaps pulling their goaltender in the final minutes, Kai Ascencio sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Troy United closes out the regular season next week with a busy three-game stretch, beginning Monday, February 9, with a road matchup against Thumb Area Legion.
